Dr. Kevin Houser, inventor of Dim-to-Vivid® technology and Founder & CEO of Lyralux, Inc., is a pioneering researcher in human visual perception and lighting design with over 30 years of experience. As a Professor of Architectural Engineering at Penn State University, Dr. Houser led groundbreaking studies on the interaction between light spectra and human perception.
His work on novel light source spectra, informed by vision science, has demonstrated methods for controlling color rendering, whiteness perception, and brightness-per-watt through spectral engineering. This expertise culminated in the development of Dim-to-Vivid® technology during his tenure at Penn State.
Prof. Houser’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the CIBSE Leon Gaster and Walsh Weston Awards, the Edison Report Lifetime Achievement Award, three IES Taylor Technical Talent Awards, and the IES Presidential Award. He is a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society and served as Editor-in-Chief of LEUKOS, the Society’s research journal, from 2011 to 2022.
Currently a Professor at Oregon State University, Dr. Houser continues to push the boundaries of lighting technology. Through Lyralux, he aims to bring the benefits of his research directly to the lighting community, revolutionizing how all people experience and interact with light in daily life.
